I’m so in my head these days and my ADHD has me chasing my tail all the time (do I finish my taxes, or go to the gym, or go for a bike ride as it’s not raining for the next fifteen minutes, or do my storyboarding homework for my Bawdy Storytelling class or write a new story for Substack…) I know, I know it’s all excuses. I’ll tell you a few highlights of February: I did my second Ketamine session and it was a total let down, but when I told my guide about my experience she said that it’s very common for people to have this, especially if the first one was really good. So strangely that made me feel better and I’m planning to do my third session this Friday (this time, forgetting about my expectation of cool visualizations or having a mental breakthrough.) Maybe the session sucked as we were getting ready to go to Florida for a week to see the ‘rents and soak in a little sun. I do not love to travel and it takes me about a week just to pack. Here’s a good visualization for you: imagine bringing your dog in the car for a long drive. Your dog is so excited, he can’t wait to jump in the front seat and stick has head out the window with his tongue wagging in the wind, smelling the air, barking at other dogs and taking in the adventure.
I am a cat. Cats like curling up on the couch for long naps, getting lots of head rubs (you should know how we liked to be pet but also not too much petting and you better not touch our belly or we will cut you), letting you know exactly what kind of food we love (we’re very picky eaters) and we hide under the couch when you take the cat carrier out as we know we’re going to be forced into an uncomfortable small box and going somewhere we don’t want to go.
So this cat had a window seat on a direct flight from to Fort Lauderdale two weeks ago. The woman next to the cat coughed for six hours straight in the direction of cat and did not wear a mask or cover her mouth. Despite the cat wearing her N-95 mask for the entire flight and trying to keep her head turned away, 72 hours later she tested positive for Covid. Since then, the cat has sworn off travel and is happy to be back in gray, cold Oregon where she can social distance all she wants, stay at home curled up on the couch watching David Attenborough documentaries, eating Goldfish crackers and purring loudly.
Meow for now.
